Anticipation

We leave on February 10 for an extensive tour of Australia, covering most of the continent, returning March 14.  Some of the travel will be by train, some by air.  I'll blog the trip whenever we have good internet access.  Here's the outline of the trip:

Red=Air      Blue=Train     Orange=Driving

We fly via Los Angeles into Sydney where we'll stay a number of days, visit with friends, and then begin our tour in Sydney.  We then fly to Perth, take a two-night train (the "Indian Pacific") to Adelaide, visit Kangaroo Island overnight and then back to Adelaide.  We then fly to Darwin, and from there will take "The Ghan" train to Alice Springs.  We'll drive to Ayers Rock, fly to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, and then finally fly back to Sydney, to LA, and home.

Australia is giant--the flight from Sydney to Perth is five hours.  Here's an overlay of Australia and the USA:

As extensive as our trip is, it will not be comprehensive.  That would be like saying you could see the entire USA in a month, but I think we'll get a good taste.

So, more to come when we arrive in Sydney.

  3. So sad to read about all the security they need. Then to hear about the shooting by the synagogue in Copenhagen.

  4. Your trip sounds great already. When we were in Sydney, we saw a fabulous production of The Magic Flute at the opera house. What a treat. Barbara
